Mr Jones's Story
Adding a spacious new conservatory was the kick-start Mr Jones and his partner needed to replace their 20-year-old kitchen.

'The conservatory was built onto the kitchen to provide us with a dining area.' says Mr Jones. 'It gave us more scope for units than before, but because we don't have a utility room, the design had to use this extra space efficiently.'

The couple looked at several different makes of kitchen, but the planners they visited couldn't accommodate their individual specifications, causing lots of storage space to be wasted. Frustrated, Mr Jones turned to Russell Interiors. 'We were immediately taken with designer Floyd Russell. His enthusiasm was infectious.' says Mr Jones. 'Like me, he's practical and suggested things such as designing the stainless-steel draining area so that water from the sink doesn't drip down the oak cabinets'.

"Floyd lives, eats, sleeps and dreams kitchens "

In Summer, Mr and Mrs Jones throw open the conservatory doors and invite guests to dine almost al fresco, although the room is used for entertaining all year round. 'The cabinetry is always on show,' says Mr Jones 'but Floyd lives, eats, sleeps and dreams kitchens, so he knew just how to make it look the part.'

My Favourite Appliance: 'The washing machine. Clothes come out of it almost dry.'

Simple oak units from the Merano range from German company Format are the epitome of functional style. Their chunky stainless-steel handles tone in nicely with plinths and work tops made of the same material.

Floyd has squeezed an impressive amount of storage into the galley layout, so much so that Mr Jones admits they haven't been able to fill yet. The shelf displaying colourful espresso cups and saucers was made by Mr Jones from a piece of oak left over from the units. Hidden brackets make it appear to float.

Mr Jones picked out this Amana fridge freezer because it's vertical handles match those of the units. He also appreciates it's generous capacity and ice and water dispenser.

A two-tiered rack is discreetly fitted next to the hob to provide handy storage for cooking oils and seasonings. Italian travertine floor tiles tie in well with the rooms neutral colour scheme and have proved a big hit with the couple as they are easy to clean.
